  • Dawn Quait

    • My first thought is always "not in my community".  I was born and raised in Wisconsin.  I have had the opportunity to travel to various places and even lived overseas for a year.  I volunteered years ago at Harbor House in Appleton and was keenly aware of the issues of domestic violence and sexual abuse.  While living overseas, I saw the effects of human trafficking firsthand but really didn't understand what it was or just how much it was impacting communities all over the world.  While living in Florida, I started working with an NGO (non-government agency) called Free Network.  We worked with the local task force as part of the education and awareness pillar or group.  Moving back home to Appleton, I never dreamt that I would again be a part of bringing education and awareness to our communities.  5-Stones is a non-profit organization from the Fox Valley does presentations to various groups throughout the community.  Our goal is to bring change through education and awareness and to make an impact in the fight against human trafficking in Wisconsin.

  • John McCune

    • I am a Sophomore at UW-Milwaukee and through my recent travels, I've gotten close to movements in the national spotlight as well as more involved with local groups and demonstrations at home here in Wisconsin. Along the way, I've gotten some insight into what works and what doesn't work when it comes to political activism. Taking from what I had learned,  I helped co-found a new student organization called The Flood. It's based off of those principles taught at Standing Rock, and our goal is to allow students avenues to be politically active for social and environmental justice. We take road trips together to the rallies, marches, and affected areas in the United States and call in our representatives weekly about current issues. I'm also on the Environmental Sustainability Mentor-ship Committee at UWM, participate in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, volunteer at Legal Action of Wisconsin, and play ultimate Frisbee.
